I hated my name. Alekhya Sengupta Banerjee. 3 words, 23 letters! Having to write my full name on every worksheet, every exam, every document was a daunting task. Not only did I hate the fact that my parents dumped their individual titles on me, I hated the very name “Alekhya.” I always asked my parents, why? Why this name? Why not something more “common” or “usual”? As I grew older, I realised I’m not the only one who hated their name. That’s when I started loving it. Alekhya, in Bengali, means a depiction which may be unwritten. It has a deeper meaning, and now when I think about it, I find it interesting and aligns with my personality. What I love most about it is that it’s unique, rare and special. As Phoebe Buffay (from the Friends TV show) once said, “It’s fun, it’s different, no one else has a name like that.”
I am Alekhya. I am pursuing my IB DP Program in The International School of Bangalore. I would define myself as an excellent blend of academically bright and artistically gifted person. Juggling multiple things is my forte. I am ambitious, driven and passionate in what I do. I pursue Dance, Fine Arts, Piano and debating, besides my interests in academics and social impact space.
